FAQ’s – Student Loan Consolidation

Why should I let you help me refinance my student loans?

Though it’s true you could do a lot of it on your own, we can do all the legwork for you. We give you the chance to see how much you’d save by consolidating, and then submit your information to a large group of lenders. By doing this, we’re able to get you better deals on consolidation than you would be able to. Best of all, this is all done at NO COST TO YOU.

How much will this cost me?

Really, it’s a free service.

What are the eligibility requirements?

You will need to be a US citizen over 18 years of age, with over $7,500 worth of student loan debt. Right now, students that are currently enrolled in educational institutions can’t be eligible for refinancing.

I didn’t graduate. Can you still help me?

Yes, but you’re going to need to help us out by providing as much information about your degree program as possible, along with your last day of attendance.

Can I consolidate my federal and private loans into one loan?

We work with lenders who can assist you with consolidating both your private student loans as well as your federal student loans.  Often times, it is better to consolidate private and federal loans separately and not as part of one consolidation.  Federal loans normally offer better benefits and lower interest rates compared to private student loans.  This will be discussed with you prior to submitting your application.

My loans are currently being deferred or are in forbearance. Can you still help me?

Unfortunately, no.

Should I include my spouse’s income on the consolidation application?

No. The information that you submit should be about you, and only you. If you both split bills, then discuss the portion that you pay.

I can’t find my school.

Our lenders will be able to work with just about any Title IV eligible school, so don’t worry.

How will you let me know of the offers I get?

When we get offers for you, we’ll send them to you. Then, we’ll discuss which would be the smartest choice for your situation.

Can you tell me more about the lenders and rates?

Our lenders are focused on refinancing both federal and private student loans. As of 2015, rates were below 2%, and the term of repayment ranged from 5 to 25 years.

Do I have to accept an offer?

Absolutely not. This is a no-obligation service.

I didn’t get any responses. What do I do?

If you sent in your information and were rejected by all the lenders we work with, then it’s best to hear feedback from the lenders. Sometimes, there may be something that can be done to help your situation.

I only received one or two offers. What now?

Choose one of those two, if you want to.

Are you going to pull my credit?

No, but lenders may choose to pull your credit. It will show up as a credit inquiry on your report.

Do I need a cosigner?

If you have very poor credit or limited credit history, a cosigner can help. This can be any US resident who’s over 21 years of age that makes over $24,000. They can be released from cosigning obligations after 36 on-time payments in many cases.

So, how do you get paid?

Lenders will pay us a fee for our services – not you.

Do I need an attorney’s assistance?

It’s never harmful to speak with an attorney regarding personal and business matters, and often times, it may be the best thing you can do if you think that an attorney’s advice can help you. Although we aren’t a law firm and we cannot provide anyone with any legal advice, you are more than welcome to speak with an attorney that we use for our company. We truly want to get familiar with our clients, and help them in any way we can. Simply send an email to info@financefitnessgym.com and we’ll be sure to forward it.
